Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Gratitude and Milestones

As 2024 comes to a close, we're grateful for the incredible journey When My Sleeping Dragon Woke has taken us on. Sharon Washington's inspiring story – from a young girl exploring library shelves to a 2023 Tony-nominated playwright – is a powerful reminder that creativity can flourish in the most unexpected places.

Celebrating Screenings, In-Person and Virtual Discussions, and Community Engagement

This year, we had the honor of sharing the film with remarkable institutions, including:

  • Dartmouth College: Screening, talkback, and workshop engaging with students in Dr. Monica White Ndounou's classes and the Dartmouth community.

  • Bates College Film Festival: A student-run showcase at the Portland Public Library in Maine.

  • The Dalton School: Inspiring young minds. (Sponsored by the Dalton Black Alumni Task Force.)

  • Westport Country Playhouse: Bringing the story to a vibrant theater community.

  • EmersonWrites: Empowering aspiring writers at Boston Public High Schools.

  • Upstate Films, Rhinebeck, NY, and The Moviehouse in Millerton, NY: Reaching local communities in the Hudson Valley.

These screenings underscored the profound power of storytelling to connect, inspire, and foster meaningful dialogue across diverse communities.

Looking Ahead to 2025: Expanding Our Mission

As we celebrate the holiday season, we invite you to join us in continuing our mission to share Sharon’s inspiring portrayal of a Black family and reach audiences far beyond the limitations of the American theatre. Your support has been instrumental in bringing Sharon's story to life.

We wish you and your community a joyous and fulfilling holiday season. We look forward to reconnecting with you in 2025!
